20 years of physical fitness training with the Marine Corps has given Sidney the foundations of what it means to be physically fit, holding oneself accountable to demanding standards, and meeting personal goals.

Sidney is from Illinois. He graduated from Lake Forest High School in June 1999 and enlisted into the Marine Corps on 22 September 1999 where he completed recruit training at Marine Corps Recruit Depot (MCRD), San Diego, California. He was promoted, meritoriously, to the rank of Private First Class (E-2). Following recruit training, he attended Marine Combat Training (MCT) at Camp Pendleton, California, and the Aviation Supply Specialist School at Naval Air Station Meridian, Mississippi.
Sidney then reported to Marine Aviation Logistics Squadron (MALS) 31, Marine Corps Air Station Beaufort, South Carolina, in April 2000 as a Supply Clerk. While assigned, he participated in Combined Arms Exercise (CAX) 9 & 10 at 29 Palms, California. He was promoted to the rank of Lance Corporal (E-3) on 1 August 2000 and Corporal (E-4) on 1 August 2001. He participated in a work-up exercise at Eglin Air Force Base in Eglin, Florida in September 2001 which was immediately halted due to the unforgettable day of 9/11.
Sidney transferred to Iwakuni, Japan in April 2002. He was assigned to MALS 12. While assigned, he participated in exercise Cobra Gold in Korat, Thailand in 2003. He also participated in Hawaii CAX in Kaneohe Bay, Hawaii in 2004. He was promoted to the rank of Sergeant (E-5) on 1 March 2004.
Sidney accepted an assignment to MALS 41, Naval Air Station Joint Reserve Base, Fort Worth, Texas in April 2004. He received the Armed Forces Service Medal for his humanitarian efforts to support the victims of Hurricane Katrina in 2005. He attended Sergeant’s Course (leadership training) at Camp Lejeune, North Carolina in October 2006.
Sidney was assigned a Special Duty Assignment (SDA) to Drill Instructor School at Parris Island, South Carolina April 2007 where he served as a Drill Instructor, Experienced Drill Instructor, and Senior Drill Instructor for Alpha Company, 1stBattalion. He also served as a Processing Drill Instructor and Senior Drill Instructor for the Recruit Processing Company, Support Battalion. He was promoted to the rank of Staff Sergeant (E-6) on 1 January 2008. Trained over 500 recruits into United States Marines not including how many were processed to begin training.
After a successful three-year tour at Parris Island, Sidney reported to MALS 26 at Marine Corps Air Station New River in Jacksonville, North Carolina. During his tour, he deployed to Afghanistan with MALS 40, Operation Enduring Freedom 11.1 from 1 February 2011 to 8 August 2011 as the Technical Research Branch Staff Non-Commissioned Officer- In-Charge (SNOIC). While deployed, he set up a Corporal Leadership Course where he held the billet of SNOIC and was the direct supervisor of three Staff Non-Commissioned Officers (SNCO) instructors.
In January 2012, Sidney transferred to MALS 26 Headquarters to hold the billet of Operations Chief. On 1 February 2012, he was promoted to the rank of Gunnery Sergeant (E-7). He went to Advanced Course (leadership training) in October 2012 and upon return to MALS 26 Headquarters, he was advanced to the position of MALS 26 Squadron Gunnery Sergeant before his selection as the Assistant Marine Officer Instructor (AMOI) at the University of Missouri, Columbia, Missouri.
Prior to beginning his role at the University of Missouri, Sidney was augmented to Officer Candidate School (OCS) in Quantico, Virginia where he held the billet of Sergeant Instructor where he trained, led, and mentored over 100 future Marine Corps Officers.
In the summer of 2016, Sidney was relocated to Okinawa where he served as the SNCOIC of both the Supply Accounting and Squadron Support Divisions. He was then promoted to his retired rank of First Sergeant (E-8) in August 2017 where he was reassigned to 3rdMarine Logistics Group, Combat Logistics Regiment 37, Service Company as the Company First Sergeant for over 120 personnel.
These were some of the best years of Sidney’s life. He has meet so many great leaders and has learned so many valuable lessons in his life that he appreciates every day. He was able to earn his undergraduate and graduate degrees while serving on active duty as well as earn his Associate Professional in Human Resources certification – all of which was paid for by the Department of Defense.
Sidney now resides in the Seattle, Washington area - the place he calls home.
